Three men have been charged after a duck was beaten to death at a country park.
Another bird was seriously injured during the incident at Hardwick Park in Sedgefield, County Durham, shortly after 6pm on Thursday.
Shocked members of the public told police a number of men were attacking a group of ducks with sticks close to the visitor centre. Officers arrested one man at the scene and a further two were held nearby following a brief search.
Durham Police said the three men have been charged with killing a wild bird and a second offence of breaching Covid-19 travel restrictions. Gharib Sarkhel, 32, from Darlington; Goran Mohammed Ali, 26, and Kasim Mohammed, 26, both of no fixed abode, will appear before Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on May 28.
